Ya se puede descargar desde su página web, el que en mi opinión, es el mejor editor de fotografías en crudo (Raw) en su versión 3.0 alpha, con algunas novedades y en esta ocasión bajo licencia GPL. Sin duda alguna, la mejor alternativa hoy en día a programas propietarios como Raw Camera o LightRoom.

A día de hoy, aunque existen muchas soluciones en GNU/Linux como Dcdraw, Ufraw, Rawstudio o Raw Therapee para el procesamiento de imágenes en crudo (RAW), muchos usuarios y profesionales de la fotografía, siguen pensando que fuera del ámbito de programas como Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Raw Camera o Capture One, no existen alternativas reales que les ofrezcan unos resultados medianamente profesionales. En parte hay que reconocer que tienen razón, pero no toda la razón y menos ahora con la aparición de Raw Therapee en su versión 3.0 alpha. :)

Para los que no conozcáis este estupendo programa, os diré que se trata de la utilidad más cercana a lo que podemos encontrar en soluciones privativas como Adobe LightRoom o Capture One. Además no se trata de una simple GUI para DCdraw sino de un programa completo con sus algoritmos propios, pero que usa DCdraw tan sólo para decodificar las imágenes en crudo (RAW).

Primer contacto.

Cuando descargamos por primera vez Raw Therapee, nos encontramos con un fichero .tgz pero no os preocupéis, ya que no hay que compilar ni instalar nada. Sólo hace falta descomprimir el fichero y ejecutar el binario RT para tener funcionando el programa. Al iniciar el programa apareceren inglés, pero desde las preferencias podemos cambiarlo al idioma que más nos guste. La interfaz solo comenzar, nos recordará a otros programas como Rawstudio y a algunos propietarios como Capture One o Raw Camera. Entre la versión 2.4 estable y esta 3.0 alpha, no hay mayores novedades que una nueva distribución de algunas opciones en la interfaz de usuario. No será hasta la beta 3.0 donde empecemos a ver cambios significativos a nivel interno. La interfaz como podemos ver, está dividida en 3 partes principales: una central, donde se sitúa la fotografía; una a la izquierda, donde se nos mostrará principalmente detalles sobre directorios y unidades y una parte a la derecha, donde están situadas la mayoría de opciones de este programa.

Opciones y más opciones.

A diferencia de lo que nos brindan otros programas libres, Raw Therapee nos ofrece un control sobre la manipulación de la imagen mucho más amplio. Si observamos detenidamente las capturas de los diferentes menús, podemos apreciar, la gran cantidad de opciones que tenemos para controlar todo aquello que es necesario a nivel profesional sobre una imagen.

En el menú de exposición podemos observar, un control muy completo sobre la exposición , la recuperación de luces altas y la media entre luces altas y sombras. Si lo comparamos con programas Como Adobe Raw Camera, nos damos cuenta que este programa nos ofrece exactamente lo mismo, pero a un coste muy inferior. De hecho despues de hacer muchas pruebas entre imágenes tratadas con Raw Therapee y Adobe Raw Camera, los resultados son prácticamente los mismos. Quiero resaltar especialmente la inclusión de tener control sobre el negro y las luces altas

Desde la opción color, tenemos control sobre el RGB, muy útil para controlar las virados etc. En este apartado tampoco falta ningún tipo de opción para controlar nuestras fotografías.

Sin duda este es el apartado más destacable de este programa. Al más puro estilo Capture One, se nos ofrece un control completamente profesional sobre el enfoque dándonos una serie de opciones que sabiéndolas utilizar harán las delicias de los más sibaritas de la fotografía. Cabe también destacar la reducción sobre luminancia y sobre el color, opciones que hasta ahora eran desconocidas en programas similares en GNU/Linux.

Otro de los platos fuertes de este programa, es el control sobre la distorsión, las aberraciones cromáticas y especialmente el viñeteo que dan algunas lentes como los “ojos de pez”.

A parte de todo lo mencionado, este programa también nos permite usar perfiles de color como Adobe RGB, el tratamiento masivo de imágenes, puntuar nuestras fotografías según su importancia o marcar las luces altas y las luces bajas. Aunque este programa no se presenta como un plugin de el Gimp, podremos cargar la imagen haciendo un simple click.

Desde aquí os animo a que probéis esta maravilla que hará las delicias de todos aquellos que usáis GNU/Linux y que todavía no encontrabais software de calidad.

RT permite exportar la imagen resultante a 16 bits por canal, que GIMP no admite. Si vamos a dar un tratamiento posterior a una imagen yo aconsejaría usar Krita (que sí admite 16 bits por canal) mejor que GIMP. Ejemplo (más sencillo): http://pedroreina.net/pm/proceso.php

Ciertamente El Gimp no acepta canales de 16bits, pero tampoco lo necesitamos y me explico: Este tipo de programas para el tratamiento y procesado de imagenes RAW en 16 bits, lo que nos ofrecen es un rango dinámico lo suficientemente alto para poder trabajar con mucha más información en los canales RGB. Una vez que tenemos ajustado el rango dinámico en 16bits, pasarlo a un programa como El Gimp que solo acepta 8bits, no es ningun problema sino hacemos ningún ajuste más sobre el rango dinámico. De hecho la mayoría de los equipos Frontier o Lambda de hoy en día para el positivado fotográfico usan 8bits por canal. Un saludo
